Background:

Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to creating an active and engaged Jewish community in northern New Jersey. Federation cares for those in need, deepens engagement in Jewish life, and strengthens the bonds among Jews in northern New Jersey, in Israel, and around the world. Our primary functions are community planning and allocations, community engagement, financial resource development, and leadership development.

Position Summary:

The role of the Jewish Family Connector (the Connector) will stimulate and support the growth of parent-inspired, neighborhood-based programming by establishing connections with families in the Wayne area. The Connector will listen to their needs and create low-barrier Jewish experiences that meet the needs of the families with children from newborn through age of 5.

These connections will be facilitated through a variety of channels, including one-on-one coffee meetups, small-scale family gatherings, program series, and more.

This is a part-time position which is flexible regarding when the hours are worked. The Connector will be mentored and supported by Federation’s Senior Jewish Outreach Associate.  They will also receive training and onboarding from PJ Library staff and have opportunities to connect and learn from other “family connectors” around the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Connect with families raising Jewish children from newborn to 5 years old.
  • Lead and host events that foster community connections through one-on-one engagement of parents through playgroups, meetups, nights out and holiday celebrations that center on belonging and connection.
  • Connect new families to PJ Library books.
  • Build new and engaging programming for parents and children.
  • Maintain list of existing Jewish community programs and resources to use as a reference tool for families.
  • Track relevant data (names, contact information, events attended, resources provided, etc.) for follow up.

Position requirements:

  • Work 12 hours/week, flexible hours
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, relationship building, and/or network building.
  • An excellent communicator and listener, and excels at relationship building
  • A strong understanding of Jewish culture, values, and community dynamics.
  • Someone who lives in or near Wayne.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively in a flexible environment.
  • Ability to stay within an established budget.
  • Familiar with Wayne’s resources, community spaces, and local businesses, both within and outside of the Jewish community.
  • Understanding and respectful of the range of Jewish connections and diversity of families raising Jewish children.
